Sonja Pavlović

Dr. Sonja Pavlović obtained her PhD degree in molecular genetics from the University of Belgrade in 2001. She was elected to the position of Principal Research Fellow in 2011. Since 1993, she was engaged as a researcher and later as Head of the Laboratory for Molecular Hematology at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, University of Belgrade (IMGGE). At present, she is the principal investigator at the Laboratory for Molecular Biomedicine IMGGE and the coordinator of the projects: “Rare diseases: molecular pathophysiology, diagnostic and therapeutic modalities and social, ethical and legal issues”, Ministry of Science of the Republic of Serbia (2011-2015) and EU FP7-REGPOT-2012-2013, “Strengthening the Research Potential of IMGGE through Reinforcement of Biomedical Science of Rare Diseases in Serbia – en route for innovation” (SERBORDISinn) (2013-2016). She was a Visiting Scholar at the Istituto di Clinica e Biologià dell’Età Evolutiva Università degli Studi, Cagliari, Italy (1999) and the Centro Ricerca M. Tettamanti, Universita di Milano-Biccoca, H. San Gerardo, Monza, Italy (2005).

Research interests of Sonja Pavlovic are molecular genetics of rare diseases, hematological malignancies and pharmacogenomics. She has published more than 100 articles in distinguished international peer reviewed journals, book chapters and other publications, and has been cited more than 300 times. Dr. Sonja Pavlović has introduced numerous molecular genetic diagnostic tests in medical practice in Serbia. Her teaching activities include seminars and courses at the Faculty of Biology and School of Medicine, University of Belgrade. Dr. Sonja Pavlović has been a supervisor for more than 30 undergraduate, master and doctoral theses.

Promotion of molecular genetics and research on rare diseases at all levels has been the major professional goals of Sonja Pavlović.
