I am a Senior Lecturer in Ethics, Decision-Making & Evidence in the School of Nursing and Human Sciences, Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland. I\u2019m also an affiliated scholar of the DCU Institute of Ethics and Chair of the Academy of Fellows of The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity, Chicago. I am Chair of the DCU Research Ethics Committee and Chair of the COST Action IS1201: Disaster Bioethics (http:\/\/DisasterBioethics.eu). \nMy early training was in pharmacy, with a BSc from Trinity College, Dublin, and a PhD in medicinal chemistry from The Ohio State University, Columbus, USA. After this, I pursued my interest in bioethics with an MA in theology focused on ethics. My research interests include disaster bioethics, nanotechnology ethics, critical thinking and moral reasoning in bioethics, emotions and ethics, and evidence-based reviews of complementary and alternative therapies.
\nMy most recent book is an edited volume,\u00a0Disaster Bioethics: Normative Issues when Nothing is Normal<\/em>\u00a0(Springer, 2014). I also authored\u00a0Nanoethics: Big Ethical Issues with Small Technology<\/em>\u00a0(Continuum, 2009) and, with Walt Larimore, MD,\u00a0Alternative Medicine: The Christian Handbook<\/em>, updated and expanded edition (Zondervan, 2007).I have published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on bioethics, regularly write commentaries for news media, and try to keep up with social media through\u00a0http:\/\/BioethicsIreland.ie<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
