Guy Widdershoven je emeritus profesor medicinske filozofije i etike na Univerzitetskim medicinskim centrima u Amsterdamu (Amsterdam University Medical Centers), Univerziteta Vrije u Amsterdamu (VU University Amsterdam). Tokom svoje karijere koordinirao je brojne istraživačke projekte u oblasti zdravstvene etike, spajajući dijalošku etiku i participativne metodologije. Njegov fokus bio je na etičkim pitanjima u dugotrajnoj nezi – psihijatriji, brizi o starijima i osobama sa invaliditetom – kao i na etičkim aspektima nege pri kraju života, posebno u oblasti palijativne nege i eutanazije.

Objavljivao je obimno o teoriji i praksi kliničke etike, kao i o moralnim razmatranjima u okviru deliberacije o pojedinačnim slučajevima. Više od 40 godina bavi se razvojem i realizacijom obrazovanja iz bioetike za studente medicine i zdravstvenih nauka Inicirao je pionirski master program u oblasti bioetike – Philosophy, Bioethics and Health (PBH) – koji predstavlja saradnju akademske bolnice i odseka za filozofiju.

Bio je predsednik Evropskog udruženja centara za medicinsku etiku (European Association of Centers of Medical Ethics – EACME).
